Choice in autism funding

This is a campaign by Collaborative Alliance of BC for Children and Families with Disabilities

Parents need choice. The Family Connection Centre (or “Hub”) model piloted in BC is not working for children with disabilities.

Hubs have long wait lists, are inconveniently located, and often lack the specialized expertise needed to support children with a broad range of support needs. All too often, Hubs make families feel like they’re just a number.

Community-based clinics respond to the specific needs of children and their families much faster than Hubs, often with no wait lists. Community-based clinics offer timely access to support, personalized care, and a sense of community where staff know the families and children well.

Maintaining direct funding for families with children with disabilities is crucial to giving them the freedom to choose and quickly access programs best suited for them.

Dear <politician_name>,

I am writing to urge you to maintain direct funding for families with autistic children and to broaden the mandate to include all children with disabilities . This is the most important issue to me during this election.

The Hub model piloted in BC has proven inefficient and impersonal, with long wait lists and inadequate services lacking expertise.

Direct funding empowers parents to choose and quickly access the best care for their children, ensuring their unique needs are met.
